Abstract
Marc De Vos teaches labour law at Ghent University, and is also director of the 'independant' think tank Itinera. Citing Winston Churchill he predicts "blood, sweat and tears" because of the enormous budget deficit, economic crisis and aging population. Without going into detail, he proposes to reform Belgian social security, the labour market, labour costs, postponing pensions a.o. He omits however the billions of net profit that corporations make, as well as the 11.5-13.5 billion euro government support to private industry, not including 20 billion support to failing banks. Tax fraud in Belgium was recently estimated at 20 billion euro. Considering the latter figures, the government budget might easliy be equilibrated and the lowest pensions and welfare might be raised. De Vos published numerous books and artikels in local magazines, but no A1 papers according to Web of science. In comparison we give the number of A1 articles and citations from other Belgian and foreign economists, including Krugman and Stiglitz. Paper is followed by discussion from readers.
