Abstract
Overqualification and job boredom: Job crafting as a moderator? Can job crafting remediate the relationship between perceived over -qualification and job boredom? It is hypothesized that workers who feel overqualified, are more prone to job boredom but that job crafting strategies based on the Job Demands-Resources model moderate the relationship between overqualification and job boredom. This assumption was tested in a cross-sectional study with 144 employees. The results indicated that overqualified employees were indeed more likely to be bored, but that job crafting aimed at increasing structural job resources (e.g. autonomy, task variety, development opportunities) could attenuate the relationship. Other job crafting strategies did not weaken the positive relationship between overqualification and job boredom. Based on these study findings, one could advise employers to stimulate job crafting aimed at increasing structural job resources. This holds particularly among the most highly qualified employees and can thus help organizations to fully realize the potential of their top talent.
