- Abstract
- For the consolidation of democracy, elections are crucial but are often marred by violence. The only legitimate way to enter political office or leadership is the election, which is essential for facilitating acceptable governance practices in a democratic system of government. By giving legitimacy to the political leaders, the electorates express their will and sovereignty through elections. Election periods are also significant in providing opportunities for the electorates to assess the ruling political party’s performances and their future governments’ expectations.
