Abstract
This article studies specific cases of transmedial interchange between early cinema and early (1917-1930) TBO, a Barcelonese comics magazine. Methodologically it draws on intermediality theory to study the inferences of cinema in early TBO. From an analysis of the first cover of TBO, to the reactions of both comics and cinema as a medium to modern inventions like post-order DIY houses, this article reflects on popular media’s humour. I argue the contemporary mediums’ humour to be based on global societal changes, but their concrete realizations to reflect interesting cultural and medial differences.
