Abstract
This article will treat the verbal suffix -s- (present in forms like er-s-ce, he chi-s-upsilon, pu upsilon-s-ce, ak-s-ke). Starting from a new reading of the form *arse in the famous gloss arseverse, we will propose a separative value of the suffix. This value can easily be applied to a certain number of texts, such as the funeral inscription of Larthi Cilnei (Ta 1.263), the Vulci mirror text (Vc 7.38) or the epitaph of San Manno (Pe 5.2). Finally the hypothesis can be supported at a syntactic level by the presence of ablative forms, having a separative value (ex. in the elogium of Laris Pulenas).
