La giurisprudenza della Corte di giustizia dell’Unione europea sulla dimensione sociale della cittadinanza europea al tempo della crisi conomica

- Abstract
- The social dimension of European citizenship is an important sector of the European integration process. The current economic crisis has caused the significant changes to this concept. In the presence of this crisis, the Court of justice has blocked its expansionist jurisprudence to safeguard the interests of the parties involved. In the new case law, it had to balance the interests of the Member States in difficult economic situations with those of European citizens. They need to take advantage of the welfare of the host member states in the exercise of the fundamental freedom of movement. In order to understand what the effects of this line of cases on the notion of the social dimension of European citizenship, the article will analyse the implications of the latest judgments of the Court of Justice on European citizens economically inactive, students, cross-border patients and job seekers.
