Abstract
In a Memorandum for the elections of May 26th, the humanist umbrella organization deMens.nu pleads for maintaining the existing course of non-religious morals in schools, at 2 hrs/week, in contrast to proposals in the Flemish parliament. I argue that media and people know little about this course, which is followed by 12-13 % of Flemish pupils only. Its contents were renewed in 2017 and are fully oriented to exercising critical debate about everyday questions, including collaboration with different religious beliefs (weblinks given). I argue that this course can teach how to reason about morals, using clear definitions, taking all proven facts into account, and making clear choices, assuming responsibility for all consequences. The proposals to abolish the course come mainly from people who received a religious education.
