Abstract
This research examines the extent to which Belgian company law is suitable for managing the functioning of a group of companies, in particular a hierarchically structured group of companies. In addition to the obvious justification for this research, given that Belgium since long has been referred to as the "country of affiliates", the group of companies is considered as a legal figure within the Belgian legal system. Also, the internal functioning of a group of companies is analyzed in relation to the legal provisions that describe her, as well this functioning in relation to the existing provisions that directly affect her internal functioning themselves. After all, despite various imperfections, Belgian company law still has a number of (possibly surprising) merits with regard to managing a group of companies, especially from an accounting law point of view.
