Reliability-based methodology for determining an equivalent standard fire duration

Abstract
A reliability-based methodology for determining an equivalent standard fire duration is defined, ensuring the same safety level for performance based design as for prescriptive design rules. The obtained equivalent fire duration is found to be more severe than the equivalency rules given in the Eurocode. For practical applications a correction factor to the traditional Eurocode equivalency rule is introduced in order to obtain an adequate level of safety.
