- Abstract
- The contributions to this special issue originate in a research project entitled ‘The Global Challenge of Human Rights Integration: Toward a Users’ Perspective’.1 The starting point of this project is the fragmented, multilayered nature of human rights law and the realisation that in any concrete case, the ‘users’ of human rights law are confronted with this complex human rights architecture. In addition to developing scholarly approaches that study human rights law as an integrated whole,2 the research project aims to study human rights law from the perspective(s) of its ‘users’. The focus of the current collection is primarily on the latter challenge. Two conceptual papers explore the ‘users’ perspective’ on human rights. They are followed by five topical papers that illustrate how users’ perspectives can be incorporated into human rights research.
