- Abstract
- Media holding De Persgroep owns newspapers and magazines, radio- and TV stations in Belgium and The Netherlands. It is a full daughter of Epifin NV. Analysis of the financial reports as deposited at the National Bank shows a complex structure of many companies. Both holdings pay no taxes, using the procedure of definite taxed earnings (DBI). CEO Christian Van Thillo was asked by European Commissioner Neelie Kroes to prepare a report on digital media; he heads the official European Media Futures Forum. In a separate chapter, the conviction in court, because of trading with prior knowledge, is evoked of a (now previous) board member of the KBC bank, who is the uncle of Christian Van Thillo. The question is asked whether journalists who are so keen on financial scandals, knew about all these.
