Abstract
The article describes the history of the making of Mandel'shtam's poem "Ne muchnistoj babochkoj beloj...", written during his exile in Voronezh (1934-1937). Arkhive materials from the Kharzhiev-Chaga fond (Stedelijk museum, Amsterdam) shows that Mandelshtam started from the description of a military funeral procession for two pilots in Voronezh in 1935 and ended his poem only in 1936 with a rather enigmatic poem.
