Two wire position signal conversion for Brushless DC motors

Author
Organization
Abstract
The paper presents a two wire position signal converter for sensored BLDC motors. The suggested topology aims at reducing the number of lines necessary for connecting the sen-sors of a BLDC machine to the control circuitry. The designed topology keeps a simple and reliable structure. A current based conversion is used, which utilizes the sensor’s power sup-ply connection. The presented structure is analyzed and experimental results are presented. The topology is advantageous for applications where the high number of wires (5 in normal connection) is undesired – such as hub motors in electric vehicles.
