Abstract
This extended abstract gives an overview of the issues and the future research directions that we will explore. The main issue is the effective management and control of inventory,in a supply chain, when demand and lead times are uncertain. The initial focus is put on studying inventory management policies for a single item and a two-echelon inventory system. A particular extension is given to determination of the safety stocks required in case of stochastic demand and lead times.
