Abstract
Background: The CARD of procaspase-1 regulates activation of procaspase-1 and NF-kappa B. Results: We show that the CARD procaspase-1 interacts with ASC through a type I interaction, whereas RIP2-mediated NF-kappa B activation involves a type III interaction. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the CARD of procaspase-1 is differently involved in inflammasome formation and NF-kappa B activation. Significance: These findings may allow development of therapeutics that specifically target a procaspase-1 function.
