Operating microscope light-induced chorioretinal phototrauma

Abstract
Since the widespread use of operating microscopes and artificial intraocular lenses in the early '80s, photoretinitis of the macula and paramacular area has been a well-documented clinical entity. A case is reported of a unilateral paramacular chorioretinal phototrauma after cataract extraction and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation. Indocyanine-green angiography (ICG-A) demonstrated the atrophy of the choriocapillaris, which was seen as a hypofluorescent area.
