Corning CN glasses for the evaluation of the neutron spectrum in fission track dating

abstract
The fission track (FT) method has been evaluated as a tool to determine the contribution of thermal, epithermal and fast neutrons in an irradiation facility. We used the U-doped Coming CN5 glass that is commonly applied in FT-dating, in combination with the thorium doped CN3 glass. The results obtained with this technique were consistent with those of the activation method. The precision of the method cannot compete with the activation method but is sufficient for evaluating the suitability of an irradiation facility for FT-dating purposes.
