Abstract
Cultural and anamorphic characteristics are described and illustrated for 15 Xylaria taxa collected in Papua New Guinea. For 6 species the anamorph as found in nature is described and compared with the anamorph as obtained in culture. Based on these cultural and anamorphic studies Xylaria allantoidea, X. badia, X. cubensis, X. laevis and X. poitei seem to be closely related and belong to the X. cubensis group; X. multiplex shows great similarities with X. grammica, X. cf. pallida and X. papulis; X. luteostromata appears to be allied to X. feejeensis.
