Abstract
Several centrifugation scenarios for the determination of soil parameters for saturated-unsaturated flow in porous media are discussed. Only global characteristics of the infiltration process in the sample are required. These characteristics can be the rotational momentum, the gravitational center, the mass of water in the sample, or the mass of expelled water measured at known time sections. These simple measurements can be used because of the application of an accurate and efficient numerical solution in the present paper. The mathematical model of infiltration is represented by Richards strongly nonlinear and degenerate equation expressed via the Van Genuchten-Mualem ansatz for the soil parameters in the unsaturated zone. The identification process is realized in an iterative way applying the Levenberg-Marquardt method.
