Optical properties of Eu3+-doped fluorophosphate glasses

Optical absorption spectra of the Eu3+-doped fluorophosphate glasses 75 NaPO3-24 AF(2)-1 EuF3 (A = Mg, Ca, Ba, Zn), 75 NaPO3-20 CaF2-5 EuF3 and 58 NaPO3-11 BaF2-30 YF3-1 EuF3 have been recorded. The dipole strengths are parametrized in terms of three phenomenological Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters Omega(lambda) (lambda = 2, 4 and 6). With the knowledge of these intensity parameters, the probability for spontaneous emission, the branching ratios and the radiative lifetime are calculated. The relation between the spectral intensities and the glass composition is discussed.
