Een architectuurtypologische benadering of een andere kijk op het kunstenaarsatelier

- The architectural typology of the 19th century artist homes or studios in the Netherlands (Amsterdam, Den Haag )was never studied before. The examples are to be situated in the last two decades of the century. Through architectural competitions some interesting examples where developed by architects such as H.P. Berlage. Especially in Den Haag painters of the Hague school spend great interest in the interior and ‘mise en scene’ of their homes who where perceived by the contemporaries as ‘museum’ (ex. Mesdag). Artists’ colonies where developed in particular areas of the cities. The architects Joseph and Eduard Cuypers designed several artist homes in Amsterdam. At the turn of the century many painters left the city and lived at the countryside. The artist farmstead seems to be a specific and unique architectural program developed in the Netherlands in the area of “het Gooi” (around Hilversum).
