- Abstract
- The transition to renewable energy globally is accelerating, with Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) sources such as wind, wave, and tidal energy becoming key players in reducing CO2 emissions. However, due to the intermittent nature of these resources, maintaining grid stability and ensuring a consistent power supply poses serious challenges. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have emerged as a viable solution to these challenges, offering improved grid reliability, energy efficiency, and sustainability. This paper seeks to study the integration of BESS into ORE systems and its ability to create a more sustainable and flexible power grid. It will examine the types of BESS technologies available, their applications in ORE environments, and their benefits regarding grid stability, energy efficiency, and environmental impact. Moreover, the brief overview of utilizing BESS is highlighted for policymakers focusing on key challenges and policy recommendations.
