- Abstract
- The distinct nature of terrorism sentencing requires in-depth research into the legal framework, judicial decision-making processes, sentencing principles, and key factors influencing sentencing outcomes. Although relatively underexplored in the literature, the past decade and a half have witnessed significant advancements in research on terrorism sentencing. This entry aims to highlight key particularities in the legal framework of terrorism sentencing, without focusing on the framework of any specific jurisdiction, as well as outline the (extra)legal factors shaping the sentencing outcomes of terrorist offenders. This approach bridges legal perspectives with insights from the social sciences. The entry concludes by suggesting pathways for future research, including the recommendation to focus on the dynamics of sentencing within broader judicial decision-making processes.
