- Abstract
- This poster provides an overview of my research design for studying women's pathways toward recovery and desistance. While there is extensive research on recovery from drug use and desistance from crime, there remains a significant lack of understanding about how women experience both processes. My study focuses on women who have struggled with alcohol and/or illegal drug use and have committed multiple offenses, aiming to explore their recovery and desistance pathways. Through three rounds of life story interviews, the project seeks to comprehend the evolution (and interconnection) of these two processes. By exploring their narratives, it uncovers the obstacles these women face throughout their journeys and discusses possible solutions to overcome these challenges. By highlighting the gender-specific experiences and needs of women in recovery and desistance, this research aims to contribute valuable insights to the field. The ultimate goal is to inform policy, practice, and future research to better support women in rebuilding their lives.
