Platone nello Zibaldone di Leopardi : la confutazione del 'sistema delle idee innate', la negazione degli assoluti : dalla necessità all'infinita possibilità

- Plato in Leopardi’s Zibaldone. The confutation of the «sistema delle idee innate», the denial of absolutes: from necessity to infinite possibility · The essay investigates the problematization of certain Platonic doctrines in a number of dense pages from the Zibaldone dating back to the summer of 1821. Exploring Leopardi’s ‘scrapbook’ from the Indice del mio Zibaldone compiled in 1827, the focus is placed not on the direct mention of ‘Plato’ but on that of ‘innate ideas’. The reflections therein collected show, in fact, how the refutation of Platonic-based innatism had fundamental theoretical consequences for Leopardi’s thought. Even when not yet familiar through direct reading but only through a stratification of mediations, Plato becomes an an- tagonist to be vanquished with the weapons of philosophical discourse, in order to demonstrate the insubstantiality of absolutes and the plunge into the relative, which are the speculative premises from which the Operette Morali will stem.
