- Abstract
- In this entry, I discuss language variation in the Post-classical period. I start by outlining some important principles of language variation and change, and how they can be applied to Ancient, Post-classical Greek. I then situate the enormous amount of linguistic varation that we find in the Post-classical period in the context of the formation of the Koine, and the rise of Atticism as a conservative, puristic movement. I conclude the entry by discussing some novel approaches towards the study of Post-classical language variation.
