UGent aan de eer (‘Econoom Gert Peersman toont zijn ideologische keuze : niet de miljardenbedrijven en beleggers, maar de gezinnen moeten betalen’)

Abstract
Economists from Ghent University published just before the elections new and unexpected data on income, energy bills and purchasing power in 5 quintiles of nearly 900.000 Belgian employees, based on their bankaccounts at BNP Paribas-Fortis. They concluded that during the present government period, purchasing power declined in the lowest 2 quintiles, and increased in the higher income categories. They blame the Belgian system of automatic wage compensation (index). I show that they omitted the lowest income group who had a strong rise in purchasing power; and that they closed their data one day before several income increases starting in April, May and June. In an interview they also state that "we must give up 5000 euro per famlly". Their study was subsidized by a stock market company.
