Abstract
The contribution addresses the question of how Musil's experimental-psychological training influences his relationship with phenomenology and psychoanalysis. Throughout his life, Robert Musil closely monitored the advancements in experimental psychology and reflected on their consequences for literature. The interest in depersonalization, which has been primarily explored within the framework of studies on the history of science regarding Musil's reception of primitivism and psychoanalysis, is newly described from the perspective of Musil's ambivalent positioning towards his "teachers" (Mach, Ehrenfels, Stumpf) as a anticipation of central theorems of embodied cognition.
