Abstract
Since its discovery in the early 1950s, the Late Bronze Age settlement of Pyla Kokkinokremos has been occupying a prominent position in the debates surrounding the ‘collapse’ of Bronze Age Mediterranean societies ca 1200 BC and this for several reasons. The short-lived character of the site—founded towards the end of the 13th century BC and abandoned during the first quarter of the 12th century BC—, its exceptional ‘casemate’ architecture, and the multi-ethnic character of its material culture— with references to Sardinia, Crete, Egypt, Anatolia, the Syro-Palestinian coast and Mycenaean Greece— all make the site stand out and have contributed to assign it a particular status in the Late Cypriot IIC– IIIA settlement landscape and within the discussions of the ‘Sea Peoples’.
