- Abstract
- This entry briefly discusses how the concept of ‘frame’ - and related notions such as ‘framing’ and ‘footing’ - has been developed in modern communication-theory. It then turns to the application of frame theory to historical texts, discussing by way of example the openings and closings (so-called ‘framing borders’) of decrees and private letters.
