Project: Observations of modernity. An investigation into the relationship between literature and philosophy in Hermann Broch's 'The Sleepwalkers' and Robert Musil's 'The Man without Qualities'.
- project duration
- 01-OCT-99 – 30-SEP-01
- The contrastive analysis of the major novels of Broch and Musil explores the respective relationship of both works to the Modernist periode code through the complex relationship of these literary works towards philosophy. Attention is paid to narrativity, cultural critique and the development of epistemological (constructivist) and ethical problems, with methodological reference to concepts developed by recent literary theory (poststructuralism) and sociology of knowledge (Luhmann).
