Project: New microbial technologies applied to the culture of the Eurasian perch (Perca fluviatilis) in recirculating systems.

project duration
01-JAN-99 – 31-DEC-00
The objective is to demonstrate the feasibility of the production of high value freshwater fish (Perca fluviatilis) in an industrial-type recirculating system in order to develop an aquaculture engineering activity. The research concerns the improvement of the production technology, the induction of reproduction off-season, the determination of the nutritional requirements, the production of mono-sex females and the control of the health and physico-chemical environment. For this last objective, applied microbial techniques will be used to enhance the development of probiotic bacterial populations and to induce a rapid seeding of the biofilters to avoid high concentrations of toxic nitrogen substances (ammonia and nitrite).
