Project: A molecular genetic approach to the biosynthesis and mode of action of ethylene in rice.

Different members of the ACC synthase family in rice will be isolated and their resp. expression patternsin relation to different forms of stress will be analysed. The specific ACC synthase genes responsible for or involved in seed maturation, inhibition of cell elongation in aerobic atmosphere and callus formation will be identified. Mutants in the signal transduction pathway of ethylene will be isolated and characterised.
