Project: EU standards in witness protection and collaboration with justice

The project focuses on examining relevant legislation concerning the protection of witness (including anonymous and threatened witnesses) and the collaboration with the judicial authorities of person who have been or are involved in organised crime or terrorism. In a first phase the national legislation of Belgium, Italy and Lithuania will be studied and surveys will be conducted to assess the practical experience and problems in relation to these regulations. Through a process of law comparison, recommendations will be drafted. In a second phase the European and international standards concerning the above-mentioned topics will be studied. Both phases will prove necessary to come to a final conclusion. The main objective of the project aims to contribute to the development of: A proposal for a EU framework decision concerning anonymous witnessess, protected witnesses, collaborators with justice.
