Project: Identification and mapping of candidate genes for carcass and meat quality traits in pigs.

abstract
The aim of the project is to isolate and characterize about thirty candidate genes for carcass and meat quality in the pig. The genes were selecte on their (possible) involvement in the lipid metabolism and muscle development. Mapping of the genes and association studies will be performed by screening for variants in the genes and study of their seggregation in the 900 F2 animals of a reference population obtained by crossing the three races Wild Boar, Meishan and PiƩtrain.
