Project: Promotion of sustainable cherimoya production systems in Latin America through the characterisation, conservation and use of local germplasm diversity
- project duration
- 01-JAN-06 – 31-DEC-08
- Cherimoya, a tropical Andean fruit species native to Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador is considered a priority species for these countries. The project aims at the promotion of sustainable cultivation of cherimoya through characterization (applying among others molecular tools) and conservation of local germplasm. This will allow local poor recourse Andean farmers to tackle essential constraints like pests, lack of adequate cultural practices and limited commercialization.
