Project: Identification and study of specific intracellular methylglyoxal-derived Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs) that play a role in the dysfunction of endothelium under hyperglycaemic condition in diabetes
- project duration
- 01-JAN-04 – 31-DEC-07
- In diabetes, it is well known that increased concentrations of methylglyoxal (MG), a cytotoxic component from glycolysis, leads to the formation of AGEs. AGEs contribute to the development of complications in diabetic patients. In our lab, a novel signaling pathway was discovered that leads to the enzymatic formation of MG-AGEs. The objective of the project is to futher unravel this pathway and discover how it could be used for therapeutic intervention.
