Project: Long-term analysis of intracranial evoked potentials in patients with refractory epilepsy

project duration
01-JAN-06 – 31-DEC-09
The unpredictable nature of the occurrence of seizures is a major reason for the incapacitating effects of epilepsy. In this project, we hypothesize that epileptic seizures are caused by as hift in excitability of the brain. Based on the technique of evoked potentials, and using intracranial electrodes, this excitability will be quantified, in order to assess a correlation with the occurrence of epileptic seizures. If such a correlation is found, this method can be applied for the anticipation of epileptic seizures.
