Project: Application of a "Laser Scanning Cytometer" for unraveling the molecular mechanisms by which mitochondria contribute to receptor-induced apoptosis and necrosis.

01-JAN-00 – 31-DEC-02

Mitochondria actively contribute to cell death (apoptosis, necrosis) induced by death receptors such as Fas and THF-R1. This contribution derives from the production of reactive oxygen species and release of the apoptosis-activating protein cytochrome c. In the present project the molecular mechanisms of these mitochondrial contributions will be studies by application of reconstruction experiments and analysis of mitochondrial functions with a "Laser Scanning Cytometer".
