Project: Elucidation of a novel oxidoreductase pathway involved in the detoxification of reactive oxidative species in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, targeted at the development of new drugs against tuberculosis.

project duration
01-JAN-01 – 31-DEC-04
The development of new tuberculostatic drugs is indispensable, since multiresistant tuberculosis strains have become a serious concern for the human population (3th cause of death amaong infectious diseases worldwide). In this project, we want to follow a totally new approach by studying the Mycobacterium - specific mycothiol-dependent oxidoreductase system (a mechanism protecting the bacterium against oxidative stress) as a target for drug design.
