Project: Accurate and precise determination of isotope ratios by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Aim is an extension of the possibilities of ICPMS for reliable isotope ratio determination by improvement of the precision and the sensitivity and by avoiding spectral overlap. For this purpose, high mass resolution, cool plasma conditions and aerosol desolvation will be evaluated. Real-life applications will include Sr isotopic analysis of wines (objective provenance determination?), accurate determination of Cu, Fe and Zn isotope ratios (tracer experiments) and determination of U isotope ratios at extremely low element concentrations (discovery of nuclear pollution and illegal nuclear activities).
