Project: Analysis of large-scale gene duplications in fishes as model systems for vertebrate genome evolution
- project duration
- 01-OCT-04 – 30-SEP-08
- Many scientists believe that there were two large-scale gene duplications at the origin of the vertebrates (2R) which made the success of this group possible. About 320 million years ago, the fishes underwent an additional large-scale gene duplication (3R). The goal is to bring more clarity in vertebrate genome evolution and in the mechanisms that cause gene loss and the development of novel gene functions.
