Project: Induction of invasion by myofibroblasts in cancer.
- project duration
- 01-OCT-95 – 31-DEC-99
- The project aims at understanding the mechanisms of cancer invasion. Our working hypothesis is as follows. At the noninvasive state, cancer cells induce the transition of stromal fibroblasts into myofibroblasts. These myofibroblasts induce the transition from the noninvasive to the invasive state. In this way a micro ecosystem is created in which host cells can stimulate the invasion of cancer cells,e.g. by possible downregulation of the invasion-suppressor E-cadherin/catenin complex.
