Project: Induction of a mucosal immunity against diarrhoea in newly weaned piglets.

- Infections with enterotoxigenic E.coli (ETEC) are one of the important causes of diarrhoea and weight loss in newly-weaned piglets in Belgium. A well-developed mucosal immunity with the production of dimeric IgA is important to suppress these infections. Induction of a protective immunity at mucosal surfaces by parental immunisation is one of the challenges in immunology. In this study the immunomodulatory effect of 1,25 dihydroxycholicalciferol (1,25 (OH)2ViD2) on the IgA response following intramuscular immunisation in pigs is analysed.
