Project: Genetic modification of the amount and or composition of lignin in poplar to obtain higher yield and more environmental friendly paper production process.

1995-01-01 – 1998-12-31

Abstract

This project aims at the modification/reduction of the lignin content in plants. Transcription factors involved in the transcription of two key genes in the lignin biosynthesis, cinnamyl alcoholdehydrogenase (CAD) and cinnamoyl coenzyme A reductase (CCR), will be identified and isolated from poplar, the modelsystem for molecular studies in trees. In a next fase, the expression of the genes will be modulated.
