Project: Research on a definition of the Flemish countryside

Abstract

The research project wanted to obtain a clear definition of the Flemish countryside, supporting the Flemish rural policy. First, an analysis of the currently used definitions of the countryside, in Flanders and surrounding countries, was made. Finally a dynamic set of criteria was developed, facilitating a flexible definition of the countryside, according to the policy aims concerned.
