Project: Integration of the diagnosis and management of cervical neoplasia in the curriculum of nursery, medicine and gynaecology

project duration
01-MAY-04 – 30-APR-08
The incidence and mortality of cervical cancer in Nicaragua is one of the highest in the world. Diagnosis and management of precancerous lesions of the cervix are poorly addressed in the formal education of nurses, medical doctors and gynecologists in Nicaragua. This project aims at the integration of specific modules targeting cervical cancer and its prevention into the formal curriculum of health professionals. Besides theorietical classes, a 'clinic of the cervix' will be opened in the main women's hospital in Managua, to improve the diagnosis and management and where residents can acquire technical experience on outpatient treatment of precancerous lesions.
