Project: Ecotaxonomy of microbial communities.

project duration
01-JAN-91 – 31-DEC-95
For the study of microbial communities new high resolution identification methods will be introduced such as enzyme polymorphism, DNA probes, gaschromatographic fingerprints of fatty acids, etc. Improved knowledge of the population genetics of the indicator bacteria investigated will be obtained and more precise identifications will be possible. These methods will be applied for monitoring and/or reconstruction and verification experiments (e.g. in microcosms). The completeness of a microbial community will be evaluated by an expertsystem. The programme will focus on fecal streptococci and aeromonads.
