- Soft low carbon steels (lightly alloyed with Si and Al) are possibly the most used materials for magnetic applications. They are particular in demand because of their low cost and the fact that they can be produced in very large quantities. An appropriate texture control is of crucial importance for the optimisation of the magnetic properties. In this research it will be intended to introduce new texture components in the microstructure by alternative processing techniques such as directional solidification and additional tensile load during rolling, added to the conventional rolling load.
