- The friction and wear behaviour of filament wound composite bearings in in-service loading conditions is studied both experimentally and theoretically. A new test set-up is built for the static and dynamic testing of composite bearings under shaft load. The stiffness and strenght, creep behaviour and friction and wear behaviour of the composite bearing is studied experimentally. On the basis of these data, a theoretical model is developped to predict the wear rate. This model is mimplemented in a commercial finite element code and allows for a simulation of realistically loaded filament wound composite bearings.
